How to get to Krakow

There is a lot of ways to get to Kraków. You can travel by plane, train or your own car.

Travel by plane

The nearest airport is The John Paul II International Airport in Balice. You can also fly to Warsaw Chopin Airport and Katowice International Airport.

Balice Airport located 15 km from the city centre. Use one of the following ways to get to the city center:

Bus: 208, 292 (during the day) and 902 (during the night). The journey takes about 40 minutes. The ticket price is approx. 1 euro. You can find the prices here: http://mpk.krakow.pl/. Remember to buy I + II zone ticket. Tickets may be purchased at kiosks or, for a slight surcharge, from the bus driver. Ticket must be validated after boarding/buying from a driver.

Train: Due to modernization of the railway line trains don't run between Krakow Balice Airport and the city center. More information here.

Taxi: The airport has its own trusted 'Krakow Airport Taxi' service with vehicles waiting outside the terminal entrances. The advantages are a set price of 69PLN from the airport to the Old Town, with no monkey business and no night time price hikes. Solid. More information here.

Travel by train

The railway station is in the centre of the town. “Dworzec Glowny" Railway Station is the main station in Krakow (located 10 minutes from the city center Main Square), and offers direct connections to European Cities such as Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and to most cities in Poland.

To get to the meeting place it takes ~ 12 minutes by feet.

Travel by car

Drivers through Poland will do well to remember the following rules:

  • Drivers must carry a valid driver’s license (Polish, international or of the country of his or her origin without international restrictions)
  • Other required documents include registration and insurance papers and in some cases the Green Card.
  • Alcohol limits allowed in Poland is 0.2 per mill in blood (or up to 0.1 mg in 1dm3 in exhaled air). Drink driving is punished by immediate seizure of driver’s license by the police and 10 penalty points.
  • If your car is furnished with seat belts, the driver and all the passengers must wear them.
  • Children up to the age of 12 and 150 cm height must be transported in children’s car seats.
  • Passing lights must be on 24h, all year round.
  • All cars must be equipped in a fire extinguisher and a triangular warning sign.

By coach

Many travel agencies offer regular coach connections between Krakow and numerous cities in Europe. Travelling by coach, one may arrive from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Holland, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
